We all know the feeling. The dog days of summer have a way of slowing everything down. The heat can feel relentless here in the Rogue Valley. Energy fades, and even simple tasks seem to require more effort. It is the season when many people are simply trying to make it through until cooler days arrive.
Life can feel that way, too. There are seasons when circumstances feel heavy, hope seems distant, and progress seems painfully slow. This is certainly true for many of the men and women who walk through our doors.
Yet while summer is often seen as a season of slowing down, here at the Mission we are witnessing growth. While much of the world is focused on vacations and escaping the heat, we are watching hearts softened by the gospel and lives strengthened by the love of Christ.
You see, restoration rarely happens overnight, and when it is truly being pursued, it does not take time off. It comes one day at a time through faithful obedience, loving accountability, and the grace of God. While the summer heat bears down outside, lives are being renewed inside. Men and women are discovering how to live in a community shaped by restored relationships with God, themselves, others, and creation.
They are also learning about God’s people as local churches come to the Mission each night to connect, serve, and build relationships. Most importantly, they are being restored to God as they gather each week to worship with local churches. In the middle of a season when many are just trying to make it through, God is growing something beautiful here at the Mission.
This work is not something we carry alone, and we are deeply grateful for friends like you who walk with us in it. Your prayers, generosity, and words of encouragement are part of the quiet faithfulness God is using every day. You may never see every conversation, breakthrough, or small step forward, but the Lord sees each one. And He is pleased to use ordinary acts of love to bring hope to people who need to know they are not forgotten.
As you walk through these summer days, may they remind you of God’s sustaining grace. The heat reminds us of our weakness and limitations, but it can also point us back to the One who strengthens, renews, and restores. Even in difficult seasons, He is still at work, and seeds planted in faith bear fruit in His perfect timing.
Thank you for being part of this ministry, not merely through what you give, but through the love of Christ you help extend to others. Together, we are witnessing lives changed, not just for a season, but for eternity.

Signs of Restoration
The stories that follow offer a glimpse of the quiet, steady work God is doing in the lives of men and women at the Mission. Restoration rarely happens all at once. It grows through daily prayer, honest conversations, faithful work, healthy relationships, and the courage to take the next step. Here are a few signs of that restoration taking root.
Restored Relationship with God – A renewed dependence on God through Scripture, prayer, worship, and deeper connection with the local church.
Clemente E. has shown meaningful spiritual growth through regular discipleship at his church. After reflecting on James 5, he shared that prayer has become part of his daily life: “Now I give Him thanks every day for what He has done in my life, ask for His mercy, and pray for others in need.” His words reflect a growing dependence on God and concern for others.
Johnny K. has established a consistent rhythm of Bible reading and discipleship. He meets with his church ally twice each week to discuss what he has read and is steadily working toward reading the entire Bible from Genesis through Revelation. He has completed about half of the Old Testament and two books of the New Testament, demonstrating a growing hunger for Scripture and accountability.
Manuel S. continues to grow in his faith and commitment to Christ. Through regular church attendance, participation in Bible study, and ongoing discipleship with his church ally, Manuel is deepening his understanding of Scripture and becoming more connected to his church family.
Rachel M. has chosen to remain at the Mission, complete her current term, and continue into Term 3 after taking time to pray through an important decision. She loves attending her church and has become involved with several women in a biweekly Bible study. These relationships are providing encouragement, accountability, and spiritual growth.
Restored Relationship with Self – Participants are learning to see themselves with greater honesty, dignity, and hope as they grow in stability, self-awareness, confidence, and readiness for change.
Arick K. is beginning to see his future differently. He once believed employment and independent living were far in the future, but through sobriety, restoration, and the support of his church community, he has begun to recognize that the timeline he placed on himself was arbitrary. Although this new season brings some anxiety, Arick is moving forward with a new identity in Christ, meaningful relationships, and growing confidence.
Jen M. is growing in honesty and accountability. Following a conversation about healthy boundaries, she was forthcoming about her actions, accepted correction, and expressed a desire to make choices that support her restoration and spiritual growth. Her willingness to be honest and receive guidance reflects meaningful personal progress.
Vanessa T. is discovering gifts and abilities she did not realize she possessed. During a tour of Daily Bread, she shared how much she enjoys serving in the bakery and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. She is also caring for her health through regular exercise and healthier eating, demonstrating growing confidence and stewardship of her well-being.
Restored Relationship with Others – Healthy relationships are taking root as participants learn accountability, fellowship, humility, and belonging.
Tawnya M. is entering Term 3 with strong support from her church ally, Grace. Grace has been a consistent source of encouragement, accountability, and guidance as Tawnya works toward her goals. Although she was initially nervous about the transition, she has become more relaxed, confident, and motivated.
Cody P. is connecting well with others and enjoying being part of the Mission family. He is looking forward to discovering local churches and developing more healthy relationships, demonstrating a hopeful openness to community and spiritual support.
Michael L. is learning to seek wisdom and support when relational conflict arises. After sharing that an interpersonal situation had become hurtful, he was encouraged to seek counsel if needed. His willingness to receive support reflects growth in responding to difficulty in a healthy, Christ-centered way.
Rachel M. is growing in humility and vulnerability as she works through the tendency to defend herself when it may not be necessary or helpful. She has been receptive to conversations about lowering her guard, trusting God, and allowing appropriate vulnerability to strengthen her relationships.
Restored Relationship with Creation –
Participants are rediscovering stewardship through meaningful work, service, health, order, and care for the resources and opportunities God has entrusted to them.
Johnny K. has faithfully completed numerous maintenance and construction projects around the Mission, dedicating much of his time and effort to supporting Daily Bread. He has also begun pursuing part-time employment and registered for a forklift certification course, taking practical steps toward greater independence and stewardship of his future.
Rachel M. has discovered renewed purpose in the Sorting Room after serving in the kitchen for many months and beginning to feel burned out. Although she was initially hesitant about the change, she now enjoys using her design skills to organize and display clothing and is grateful for the opportunity to contribute in a new way.
Tawnya M. has an interview for a position serving children with severe disabilities. She is excited about the opportunity and sees it as an important step in this season of restoration. Her pursuit of meaningful employment reflects growing responsibility and a desire to use her abilities in service to others.
Vanessa T. continues to use her gifts to serve others through Daily Bread with confidence and joy. She received a professional recipe and conversion binder to help maintain consistency in the bakery and frequently gives tours to visiting church groups. Through these conversations, she helps others understand the purpose behind the work and ministry taking place at the Mission.
